Character design for “McPhee”, one of the lead characters in an upcoming untitled game that I’m working on.

Personality Traits:
Quick-witted and quick-tempered. Possesses the knowledge to analyze situations logically, but would rather just shoot at things until he gets the right results. Makes a lot of brash decisions. Hates airships.

Targus McPhee, originally an Irishman, traveled the Queen’s territory with his parents until age 8, when the McPhee family fell victim to a disastrous airship crash over London.

Parents deceased, Targus studied under the wing of a distant cousin who worked as a mechanic in the Royal Navy, learning the steam trade and becoming an accomplished mechanical engineer. However, due to his extreme dislike for airships and a notorious lack of patience, he never fully made it in the Royal Navy. Pursuing paranormal science instead, he has taken after his parents and become an explorer and ghost hunter, because “you can go anywhere and get away with anything as long as people think you’re fighting demons.”

Character design for “Bombay”, one of the lead characters in an upcoming untitled game that I’m working on. An Indian researcher well-read on all topics supernatural and otherworldly in nature, she becomes recruited (i.e. “civilized”) and joins our main hero on his international adventures. Unable to ever full pronounce her actual name, he takes to referring to her by the city he found her in.

Over the summer I did some work on the upcoming game title Steampirates from Oyaji Games. These cave and beach backgrounds were based on rough sketches by game designer Luc Bernard.

In my head, I call this one “Never Been to Spain”. I had the song on repeat while painting this, and it seemed really funny to me at the time.

I’m not quite sure why aliens worship a highly evolved form of Eeyore, but I’m not going to question it.

Another psuedo speed-painting. I was trying to keep this under an hour, but I lost track of time a bit. I think it came out to 1.5 hours.

Painter with a Cintiq

This month I’m restarting my daily art challenge– draw/paint a new drawing every day this month. The awesome Exmoure has volunteered to be my art gym buddy and help me work on my ART GLUTES.

For the entire month, we’re going to take turns picking video game characters to draw. Today’s pick? Yuna from FFX.

His version is fantastic. I decided to try something different and do a quick color/lighting study. I might do a more typical one later if time permits.

This is another thank you fanart– this time, for Exmoure from his much-missed Battle Forum! I had to throw some Jean-Luc Pikachu in for good measure. Below is the original sketch– I had originally planned for a “good” and “bad” JLP, but we all know there is really only one.

Here’s some fanart of the amazing Spookychan’s Good God, from her God Machine graphic novel. She’s a fantastic artist, so if you happen to like this piece at all, you’ll absolutely adore her work. She has so much intricate detail in her pieces… it’s really lovely and inspiring.

Chris Sanders is absolutely amazing. Not only is he one of my favorite illustrators and animators of all time, but he also is kind enough to upload high res versions of his artwork for silly little fangirls like me to color.

I’ve been working on this on and off for the past few days. I’m super proud of this– I’m incredibly happy with the color scheme, the background, and the fact that I was able to keep Chris’ fantastic lineart but still give it a painterly quality that most of my stuff has.
